Title I Program
Title I is a federally funded program designed to help all students master the challenging state standards.Southwestern Elementary offers Title I help in Reading in grades 1-2, and in Math in grade 2.
Title I students receive extra help in their regular classroom and/or individual or small group
help from a teacher or an instructional assistant. First grade Title I students participate in an
early reading intervention called Reading Recovery. Title I students also receive monthly
school/home links activities that are specially designed to support parents as they share the
responsibility of helping their students succeed academically. Students become eligible for
Title I services based on test scores, as well as teacher recommendation.
